Lacey John Is University of Arizona Commencement Speaker

Olympic Swim Start UA John Lacey speaker name

John Lacey, best known by her maiden name, Nymeyer, said on swimming for women of the AU and the dive team and won silver in the 400 meters free relay at the Olympic Games 2008 in Beijing.

Student John Lacey, swimming champion and Olympic women's, will speak at the University of Arizona Winter start.

John, better known by her maiden name, Nymeyer, said on swimming for women of the AU and the diving team from 2004 until his graduation in 2009.

John graduated with a degree in education, while accumulating an impressive career record including being named Sportsman of the 2009 NCAA Woman of the Year and winner of a silver medal in the 400 meters free relay at the Olympic Games 2008 in Beijing .

Born in Tucson and graduated from Mountain View School, John won five World Championship medals, including gold in the 2007 World Championships and silver at the 2009 FINA World Championships as a member of Team USA.

The two-time NCAA national champion, John has American, NCAA, U.S. Open and world records and 26-hours a NCAA All-American. As team captain two years AU swim team turned its first team title in the NCAA championship. It also remains universal access records in the 100 freestyle and 200 yards.

The AU gave Ruby Award for female athlete of the studies in 2008 and the Pac-10 twice named "Swimmer of the Year" in 2007 and 2008.
